Precision Viticulture

Modern technology in the service of viticulture excelence

Precision viticulture is an innovative way of monitoring and making decisions about the vineyard using sensors, GPS and the use of remote sensing. Of interest is the use of the NDVI vegetation index related to foliage properties.

Leaf area and vigor can provide very useful information at different time intervals regarding leaf area. The leaf surface of the vine is very important as it determines the final result, the grape to winemaking, since it helps photosynthesis, the smooth and proper ripening of the grape that will provide us with a balanced wine with flavors and aromas. The use of the information of the leaf surface can contribute to the creation of soil maps with the delimitation of the vineyard plots based on the condition of the leaf surface of the plants.

Since 2017, with the help of both the drone and the measurement of the NDVI vegetation index, we have demarcated zones in which separate vinifications were made after the measurements of the quality characteristics of the grapes. From the results given by each zone, the best one was chosen.

Εvery year, we try with cultivation techniques to bring the remaining zones as close as possible to the desired one. We maintain experimental zones within our vineyards, where we experiment to further improve the quality of our commandaria.
